An Introduction To Sake - 31st May

An Introduction To Sake - 31st May

There are few things better than learning something new, and ( not to blow our own trumpet ) I like to think that we do sprinkle a modicum of education into our tasting evenings.

Now, It may be hard to believe but, our knowledge is not encyclopaedic and when organising an event slightly outside of our comfort zone, it’s probably a good idea to draft in an expert to help us out.

We’ve been thinking about running a sake evening for a few months now - it’s a small part of our range - but growing very rapidly and the feedback we’ve been getting from customers very much suggests it could be the next big thing. But none of us this side of the counter have enough experience with the stuff to talk with confidence about it.

Fortunately we were recently introduced to Tom.

Tom is a sake importer/wholesaler/evangelist and he will be very happy to run us through a small selection of the styles and provide a grounding in the production and consumption of this most individual of drinks.

Hopefully by the end of the evening, you will be able to bluff your way through the different rice gradings, the role of koji and (maybe) get a grip of the pronunciation.

So come and join us at the end of the month as we spend a couple of hours exploring the wonderful world of Japan’s most singular drink.

The tasting will start at 7pm sharp on Sunday 31st May at Argonaut Books

Tickets are available HERE or over the counter in the shop. They are £30 per person and include seven glasses of sake, a few nibbles, and plenty of chat.

See you soon !
