We’ve not even reached August and I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it up to here with this weather. Now, I’m sure that we have all developed routines that go some way to mitigate this infernal heat: Personally, I’ve enjoyed hiding in the shadiest corner of my (very small) garden with a long, ice cold, vermouth spritz.
It’s a part of the wine business that I have largely ignored for three decades - but the summer of 2026 has made me fall hard for these complex, herbal drinks and now, there is always at least one bottle in my fridge.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this: The last few years have seen a mini explosion in vermouths popularity - largely driven by the ubiquitous negroni, but I’m sure there is room to explore vermouth in it’s naked state.
So join us at the end of August for an evening of aromatised wine from around the world ( mostly vermouth, but I might sneak an amaro in ) I will give a brief run through of the history, production and uses of vermouth and we will of course drink a bunch of them.
